COD 4 Direct x problem

hi guys, im having problem with starting up the COD4...when i try to run the game, an error message that read " Direct X unrecoverable error occured, reading the readme file may provide solutions", how am i supposed to fix this problem? i will be so grateful if you guys can help me out.....

Does it happen while playing singleplayer, multiplayer or both?

it happens when playing both.....i cant even start up the game at all...

try reinstalling your direct x

On what OS are you running? Install the latest DirectX for your OS and make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements at http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

My OS is windows vista home....i will try to reinstall direct X and see what happens...thanx guys...
