Hi

contact Dell,. they make a charge for it, or you could browse ebay for one.

Failing that take the laptop to a PC shop they can install 2K for you for a small fee.

What I did :)

Thanks for the advice.
As my dell 8100 system with windows operating system was not booting easily and once boot was done it was not connecting to even internet. I tried to install Ubuntu but it did not work. I removed the hard drive and put into my other desktop - (emachine) as a slave drive - reformatted it and using ubuntu cd I loaded the new operating system with generic drivers according to the working PC. I checked the system and put the hard drive back in the old Dell dimension 8100. To my surprise every thing went perfectly with new operating system. The old PC started running like a horse with no spendings

I know this might sound ghetto.....

But I needed an ME disc to include with an ancient Gateway when I sold to a kid at the local Wendy's.

That's what the COA was for on the back of the box, and figured he'd wind up getting a virus from surfing porn and skateboard sites sooner or later. lol

So I wanted to try and get him an install disk, just in case. He's a good kid.

So I went to GOODWILL!!!!!!!! They have a CD rack with about 600 various mixed titles.
Just look for jewel boxes without labels, they are almost always computer discs. Found an ME, a 98, and a freakin' 95 with it's COA.

All were a dollar a piece!

Sent the 95 to my lil'bro for Christmas! HE LOVED IT!

Well, he loved shooting at it. (he's Mr. Linux now, lol)

I'm almost in the same predicament. I have a Dell 8100 laptop I'm wanting to wipe clean and give to a friend. I lost all the recovery crap, but I do have a copy of Windows 2000 NT. If I installed it, would it clear everything off? Also I have a copy of Vista, but I figured it wouldn't work with that... plus Vista is horrible. Thanks!

It's always best to start clean.
The best way to have it "clean" is by removing the Partition (this option given when Setting up Windows from the Windows setup CD)

System specs
Before installing a particular operating system, make sure you have all your drivers ready beforehand. Depending on the system, it's possible that an older OS like Windows 2000 or Windows NT (not sure which one you were referring to) might not be supported with the appropriate drivers. I'm not saying it isn't, just that you should make sure it is.

I have a buddy with XP. I'll probably just try that. Seems like it would be a better choice than 2000 anyways...
