USB ports not discovering new hardware
I have a Dell Optiplex GX520, and it now only recognizes my External Hard Drive and other peripherals (mouse and keyboard, etc.) but will not detect any new hardware (such as my Flash Drive).
Would this be a driver issue, or something else? |

Plug in your external hard drive, go to Computer Management, Disk management and assign it drive letter like J:.
Then see if the other device gets seen after reboot. BE VERY CAREFUL AND DO NOT CHANGE C: BY MISTAKE! |

Ok, the problem was fixed! I found that it was actually a problem based on a Lan folder on the server (It was a School computer and Server...) that was under the drive path H:\. I plugged the Flash Drive up and it was detected as that folder, (H:\) so I changed that drive path to M:\ and it works great! Thanks.

That is a 'mapped' issue which is actually similar in nature. However, you DON'T want to mess with mapped school/business 'drive' letter assignments because you might then be unable to do your work.
