What kind of hard drive do I need?

I need a new hard drive for my alienware area 51. Its about 3 or 4 years old and I want to get a 9600 rpm hard drive, I don't know what kind it is or where to find it. Thank you.

I don't think there is such thing as a 9600 rpm hdd. Standard values are 5400 (slow), 7200, and 10000. Look on newegg.com for brands like Western digital or Seagate drives.

How much space do you need and what are you using it for?

I'm using it for gaming, I just looked at the old one and it says IDE is that the type I should look for?

You should use SATA if your motherboard supports it. Do you know what kind of motherboard you have and what size harddrive you need? Games don't really take too much room.

You can go to http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_150.zip , download and run CPU-Z, go to the "Mainboard" tab and say whats on there.
