Crytek interview on Pixel Shaders 3.0
Controversy has been all over the place since NVIDIA released a few screenshots from FPS game Far Cry, in an effort to display the power of the Pixel Shader 3.0 feature of its recently unveiled GeForce 6800. All of us running the game with current generation of graphics cards can easily tell PS 2.0 image quality isn't as bad and change is not as dramatic with 3.0 shaders...
PC Perspective had the opportunity to chat with Crytek's CEO who better explains the technology powering the game, its use of Pixel Shaders 2/3 and the advantages newer cards will have over the current generation of 3D accelerators. On a semi-related note, Ubisoft posted strong financials today, boasting annual sales that climbed more than 22 percent above last year's levels, the company credited success to all Tom Clancy's titles (Splinter Cell, etc.) and Prince of Persia brand, with high hopes for Far Cry for this year as well. |

Performance gain while utilizing realistic shading techniques....
So would it be safe to say once this "mod" comes out for far cry, Nvidia's card may perform faster at the points during the game where ps3.0 is used? Also it seems like the developer repeated himself by saying there was'nt much of a difference visually between ps2.0 and ps3.0 , but video performance is the major use for ps3. Does this sound like an edge for Nvidia? Hmmm. |
