Here are some more quotes from Chris Tom of AMDZone.com on what is taking place at AMD this year. Read carfully, Duron out, Hammer at .09 micron and Athlon going to be "budget". I will update the post when AMD posts it on their website.

I just bought 10 shares of AMD stock. But I doubt they will make a significant turnaround this year. They have too much debt on the books from the RTI buyout. yeah, this thread is old, but what the heck, let's see them give intel a run for the money. Intel is in a lot better shape financially, but there is not much more room to grow. I'd like to see AMD bought out by a much better managed company like IBM or NVIDIA.

I own quite a few shares of AMD myself. It is a great time to buy as they are selling for $6/share and back in Feb of 2006 they were trading at over $40/share. I don't see them getting back up there quickly but I think it will happen.

I think they will still lose money in 2008 but expect them to look good in 2009

I think in the long run AMD might turn around, but they have had abysmal management in recent years and their acquisition of ATI was a bit more than they could chew- quite a bit more. I think it will take 2-3 years for a turnaround and there will be no significant increase in stock value in the meantime, AMD's best bet is that they are seen as undervalued and get bought out by a much larger company with cash on hand - like IBM or Texas instruments.. There are others that would make a fine match also. AMD has a lot of infrastructure and a merger might be in their best financial interest and also in the interest of shareholders. Will this happen? maybe. This year is going to be very rough for companies and investors with a 6 - 8 month recession ahead. Once the recession is over, we should see another very strong bull market. On the positive note, this is an opportune time to seek some very cheap, undervalued stock.

Companies like AMD have to focus on paying off their enormous debt from all the recent acquisitions. They do not have the competitive power to compete with AMD, so they have to come up with a new plan - like efficient processors and cheap processors. These are markets that Intel has the ability to get into, but is more focused on server and general computing interests.
