As promised some time ago, VUGames has now released the full versions of both Tribes and Tribes 2 for free as a promotion for the next upcoming game in the multiplayer shooter series Tribes: Vengeance. You can download the games at FilePlanet for Tribes and Tribes 2, the latter of which apparently will only have a limited amount of keys available.

Too bad they didn't just host them themselves. I'm not paying money just to dl something... I guess perhaps its worth it to some people, but I don't play games that much, so I'd rather just not have it if they are going to make me pay for a "free" game.

the money it costs to join fileplanet to get tribes and tribes for free, i could probably go to the store and get it for less.

oh i see you have to wait to download. fileplanet is always so slow for me.

you dont have to pay to download. and if you do it at night you usually dont have to wait either.

right now i am just having a problem with getting a key to install the game with. the page always opens saying i need to validate my email address and i have already done this so i dunno what to think.

How you figure that? I click the link and get straight up asked to enter my name and password, and create one if I don't have one - and right there it requires money.

That link page is a little misleading, maybe on purpose. But you don't have to pay to download, you just have to wait in line. Sometimes and hour or two. Just choose the free account, and sign up, no money involved.

Anyway, at about 5:30 AM, Central Time, I am downloading Tribes 2, and had no wait, it's very fast, and I didn't pay anything. Most times I can find another site, though, like GamersHell, or WorthPlaying, that I don't have to wait in line, but this must be an exclusive to File Planet.

Nice. Never played any of the Tribes games before so I thought I'd check it out.

make sure you are using IE. i used firefox and it gave me the same problem you are talking about. the page is supposed to bring you to a page where you enter in some alphanumerics from a picture (like when you create an account with a free email service). then it will tell you the serial number immediately.
just create a gamespy account first. then when you get to the tribes or tribes2 download page, login into your gamespy account. you will then proceed to a download page. click on one of the free download servers. hopefully some of the free servers are not full (else wait in line). now download!

this process is just a hassle. it could have been so much easier to download stuff. fileplanet bloats their whole page advertising their pay servers and discretely allow people to get to the free servers in an obscure manner.

not always. i got lucky last night and did not have to wait in line. maybe it was because i downloaded after midnight PST.

I guess that i should try it again. i tried several times in the past and had to wait a long time. i even tried it late at night. maybe i should give it a try again.

is anyone having a hard time trying to get a cd-key for tribes 2. I can download the game just fine but i cant get a webpage for the cd-key to come up at all.

the webpage would open for me but it always said i needed a "verified email address" and never told me any key but i found that the game never even asked me for a key while installing OR playing and i can play it anyways.

The key is only required for online play and it looks like they ran out of keys already.

Tribes is one of the games that made internet gaming what it is. I always knew about it, just never got it.

Oh, and just get a keygen for the game... do people monitor these forums for stuff like that?

Yeh us mods monitor for that. We can't condone usage of such keygens, but if you want to use one youself we (mods) don't care, just don't post a key or where to get the keygen here and all is cool.
