AMD preparing Atom-smashing platform?

Atom has been one of Intel\'s most prominent successes in recent times. The platform has impressed many for its technical achievements if not pure sales, with analysts and enthusiasts alike seeing it as being a big part of future hardware sales. AMD has publicly denied interest in the netbook segment where Atom is king, questioning the usefulness of these devices, but as the market matures the company knows it needs to come up with an answer.

Ah AMD you have so much potential, why do you respond so slowly. They should have switched to this two years ago when they were first getting trounced by the Intels C2D. Instead they tried to go head to head with the Phenon and things didn't turn out so well.

It's sad, because they had such potential for a while. They're producing some great products now, but they're just not competitive anymore... besides their gpus. People will argue with me, of course, because they're AMD advocates... but I used to be one, too. They've just slacked behind and don't produce anything that really stands out anymore. ;/

They really should have gotten on the netbook wagon earlier. Still, it'll be interesting to see what comes out, and if the accompanying graphics solution rivals or outperforms nVidia's 'Ion' .
