Is it just me or does anyone else shudder when they hear the name Seagate mentioned in the same sentence as "hard drive"? I've had too many Seagate drives fail on me in the past (most recently 2 months ago) to consider any "backup solution" they may come up with.... (BSEE/IT)

Get out WD fanboy, every manufacturer of desktop drives has a high failure rate. Seagate has just seen the most press coverage as of late. I've had fairly equal death rates across all manufacturers through over a hundred HDD's, you want reliable you better pay up and go enterprise.

How is personal experience in any way associated with press coverage, ***? I've worked with hundreds of hdds and have personally seen that the failure rate in Seagate drives to be much higher than other brands. Perhaps my trust in Seagate products is much lower than that of other manufacturers. For my money, the manufacturer is definitely *not* Seagate for stability and performance.
