Express-compliant system problem please help
I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place, Anyhow I'm thinking of buy a graphic card for my Pentium 4 "pci only" found but it's a pci but requirements are Express-compliant system power supply; available PCI Express 2.0 slot. is it mistaken or something what' the drifferent bewteen PCI 2.0 slot and PCI express 2.0 slot. full specs.
Computer: inter(r) pentium(r) 4 cpu 2.8GH Z 280GHZ, 504 MB of RAM (i got two sticks both 256 shouldn't i have 512?) This is the direct link to the graphic card This are the graphic card specs: BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Graphics Card Powered by the GeForce 8400 GS graphics processing unit (GPU) 512MB DDR2 memory PCI interface Core clock speed: 567MHz; dual 400MHz RAMDACs 2560 x 1600 at 60Hz maximum digital resolution at 32-bit color for ultrarealistic gaming experiences PureVideo HD processor delivers improved picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color and precise image scaling NVIDIA ForceWare provides enhanced performance and speed, stunning visual quality and unified driver architecture (UDA) to ensure forward and backward compatibility with hardware and software Supports Microsoft DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.0 with Shader Model 4.0 for Microsoft Windows Vista or XP 1 dual-link DVI-I, VGA and 1 TV output; HDCP-capable Includes software CD-ROM video memory 512 DDR interface slot type PCI only says PCI not PCI e x16 or other stuff systems requirements: Windows XP or Vista; 256MB RAM; 100MB available hard drive space; 300W PCI Express-compliant system power supply; available PCI Express 2.0 slot; CD-ROM drive Um thing on top of the box says PCI so i assume it works for my motherboard pci bus or 2.0 pci w/e its call color of slot our white not black. will this work for me ? if not know any other graphic card for pci for same price or less? it did not let me post the link but if you go to bestbuy dot com and type in BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Graphics Card or just graphic card it will show up anywahs help or tips will be appreceate thank you. |

"(i got two sticks both 256 shouldn't i have 512?)"...
Your motherboard is taking some memory for the on-board video. What is your motherboards model number? The "new" PCI video card should work though. Remember to disable the on-board video before you install the new video card. It wouldn't hurt to bump the memory to 1GB |

Well, the nvidia geforce 8400gs requires a pci-express 1.0 slot.
Since u have p4,i assume it may have a pci slot. So ur 8400gs is not going to work. A pci-e card is not backward compatible with with pci.but a pci-e 2.0 card is backward compatible with pci-e 1.0 i recently installed a 9500gt pci-e 2.0 in my pci-e 1.0 slot |

even i am confused.if ur 8400gs is a pci one,how can it ask for a pci-e slot?
ur card should work if u r sure it has pci. there may be something wrong with the packaging. |

Yeah man, I'll buy it and see what happens perhaps the discription is just incorrect wouldn't make since at all being two of the same i assumed pci costs more because it's for pci and pci e cheaper because theres lots of models of graphic cards for pci e. I found this and should work for me. if not i will be returning it. Thank you guys for the help i appreceate it alot. i'll let you guys know how it goes
