Shift Keys not working

Well my wife deactivated the shift keys somehow on her HP Dv6700 with Vista

I have checked the sticky keys and it is UNCHECKED.

I did the on screen keyboard check and the shift keys are registering as working.

Pressed the shift key 5 times...nothing

I have scoured the web looking for an answer to this but no answer other than what I have already tried.

Any suggestions...?

Have you tried using an external keyboard to test?
