I hope I'm in the right spot for this thread if not Sorry. I'm selling a older boat and was asked if I would consider trading a Dell desktop for it. This intrigues me but I'm not sure if it is worth it. I want $1800 for the boat and here is what he wants to trade:

750gb hdd/7200 rpm
nVidia GeForce 9800 GX2 video card
Dell19 media reader with bluetooth

6 piece sound system

microsoft office 2007

He said that he bought it in November for $3500 and still has warranty left on it. So what does everyone think? any responses are appreciated.

Not close.
Used value on the Dell XPS 730 in our part of the country is about $500 - $700 - $1200 depending on whom you ask, and who wants it. Used stuff value goes way down very rapidly unless you have something special that everybody wants.

4gb ddr3 sdram $ 70 mebbe depending on brand and speed
6 piece sound system $ 100 would have to know more

microsoft office 2007 $ 100 - $200

Other parts of the country, and different ages of users will give you a wide spread...
But think of selling your boat today, emergency, vs Selling the computer today, emergency.

I can tell you this. That system would not sell for close to $3500 on Dell today... perhaps not even $2500 new and unused... so check out Dell prices.

Thanks for the reply. I have been enlighten and I'm glad I asked. I've been asking around and the concensus is about the same opinion as yours. So I think I will pass on the trade.
