Download a backup of The Pirate Bay before it sets sail

In a few short days, The Pirate Bay's new owners will take over and the infamous torrent distributor will be just another martyr in the battle for freedom of information. Rather than accept its fate, a member of the site's massive community has decided to take some preventative measures. The anonymous patron has compiled and uploaded a copy of The Pirate Bay's massive torrent index.

17 seeds and a whopping 4,400 leechers, good luck with that. Then again, when there is a will, there is a way.

Steal TPB before they sell out, that is in my mind a perfect action.
And a huge stick it to the industry at the same time. WIN WIN.

Sure there is! - Next - we make a huge radio network in spreadspectrum and with congnitive radio
sending up our own home made sattelites with rocketmissiles contaning hardware that canīt be taken down. And berry all kinds of strange reduntant hardware in the ground. Next we climb in the trees, with
small prevasive computing devices. With other words you canīt hide from the new age !

Does anyone know if it is illegal, or may become illegal to download a website?
Certainly the people who are shutting down the pirate bay will likewise want to de-legitimize the torrent, but its still just a website...?

The site was never copyrighted, so technically no. Since hosting a torrent site in The US is illegal though, I can't say if possessing the database is a crime or not.

it is hard to believe such a large community will die after a site or a tracker
a new free tracker is out there
