tedster your spot on , http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~brians/errors/virii.html this means kritius is a hacker and most likely all "viruses" come from him.

And Now, For the "Rez-erection" of Latin.....

Are those the same people that swear that they heard Steve Jobs speaking to them from the middle of a burning bush? Or perhaps it was Bill Gates.

Many Americans have the tendency to believe that being God damned fat, makes you God damned important. Plus we're a religious bunch, we're always sitting around waiting for the second coming, of the feedbag that is. Doesn't this seem like an opportunity for a patent and a thriving business; invent potato chip bags with eyelets at the mouth, so that you could just rip the bag open, and strap it to your face!

But purists also use the etymologically derived plural “viri”, in analogy to “fungus – fungi”, “terminus – termini” and “dominus – domini”.

Some people even say “virii” trying to be super-purists, but that’s wrong in any case or language.

This reminds me to go and water my cacti.
Being from "South Europe", shouldn't you be "Lynx Lynx", the cat so ferocious they had to name it twice?

Anyway, I sort of subscribe to my own custom of calling all Lynx species "bobcats", since the bobcat gets it's common name because of the "bobbed" tail. All Lynx species have short tails, hence they are all "bobcats", at least to my muddled application of Taxonomic reasoning. IE; "Lynx Canadensis" becomes the "Canadian Bobcat", Lynx Lynx the Asiatic (or European) Bobcat, and Lynx Pardinus (the Iberian Lynx) becomes the Spanish Bobcat, except of course for the actual Bobcat, which becomes Lynx Rufus.

Moving on to "Vir >>"ii"<<, the "ii" ending is used in certain scientific names, and it's pronounced "ee, eye" (long "E", then long "I"! This also manifests itself in the words of certain traditional songs such as, "Old MacDonald's Farm", [sic] , "Old MacDonald had a farm, EE, Eye, EE, Eye, Oh", as it were. (Please note the long "O" sound).

But I digress! Back to the topic in hand, since "fungus" is pronounced with a hard "G", why do many people pronounce "fungi" with a "J". This has bothered me deeply for years.

To whom it may concern, no computer viri were produced, nor was any computer harmed in the making of this post.

Now, as to who I may have pissed off, oops sorry.

yes , well , as a matter of fact Steve Jobs is a personal friend of mine and indeed he does frequent many a burning bush , with continueing price hikes on heating , it seems a sane choice for maintaining a high living standard which contributes to his life expectancy, if such a choice were adopted across the u.s. there is no doubt the u.s would rank higher than #45 , loby your senator today and the burning of bushes could become mandatory tomorrow.

You should watch more porn, you would quickly learn that there are no more bushes to burn. And to make matters worse, Penicillin no longer extinguishes the flames.

And yes, this is on the topic, (sort of), of "where do viruses come from". Since viruses seem to accompany free downloads of Russian porn. Well, even paid downloads for that matter.

The captain raised several matters of importance, none more than the various cat species…er.. should’t that be specieses in analogy to viruses?

I chose the nick “bobcat” because it contains the familiar word “cat”, which doesn’t portray the wild image of lynx, but lacks no comparable abilities nevertheless.

Moreover, it has a simple, undisputed plural, so that I don’t get challenged over my use of Latin. Now, what would the plural of “lynx” be? Lynx or lynxes? And what would the plural of “lynx lynx” then be? Or is it already a plural since there are 2 of them?

Trying to keep up with the captain’s remarkable knowledge about cats, I looked up the etymology of “lynx”.

Quote:
Lynx etymology: Middle English, from Latin, from Greek; akin to Old English lox lynx and probably to Greek leukos white. (Merriam-Webster)
Now, I find all this confusing and felt really glad I’m a simple cat. That is until I looked at the etymology of that:

Quote:
Cat
O.E. (c.700), from W.Gmc. (c.400-450), from P.Gmc. *kattuz, from L.L. cattus. The near-universal European word now, it appeared in Europe as L. catta (Martial, c.75 C.E.), Byzantine Gk. katta (c.350) and was in general use on the continent by c. 700, replacing L. feles. Probably ult. Afro-Asiatic (cf. Nubian kadis, Berber kadiska, both meaning "cat"). Arabic qitt "tomcat" may be from the same source.
Confusing though it still is, all this makes me feel not just European, but international.

Having dealt with the priority subject of cats, I return to other matters raised.

I have just discovered an alternative source:

VISTA: Viruses, Intruders, Spyware, Trojans & Adware.

There’s also a virus-free version of VISTA specially developed for:

This thread has become a soap opera. Perhaps we should name it, "As the Douche Squirts".

I agree (that's what I was implying in post #30).
Since I started this thread, I thought I could rename it, but it won't let me
Or maybe I just don't know how...

I think this thread has taken a turn for the worse and has spun off to spam.

We should get back to talking about cati * (plural of catus)

* Felis catus = domestic cat
