My Dell Latitude D505 will not stay on

I attempted to start up my dell this morning, and it's been a frustrating experience ever since. Each time I hit the power button, the power light and hard drive lights come on for only a couple of seconds, and then it shuts off completely. I have looked at other threads similar to this topic and have also tried some things I've read to no avail. I took the battery out and it still does the same thing when plugged directly into the wall. Your help or any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Usual cause is hard drive failure. How old is the drive. Second caus in that dell is memory failure. Others are too little, or dried out thermal past, failing modem (even if not in use), and plain ol dust, dirt, and hair plugging cooling channels.
