Microsoft cuts price of Xbox 360 Elite, kills Pro
Following an endless series of rumors, and Sony's introduction of the PlayStation 3 Slim at an all-time low of $300, Microsoft has finally confirmed it is too cutting the price of its high end Xbox 360 Elite. Starting Friday, the 120GB console will be lowered from $400 to $300, while the price for the 60GB Pro model should see a temporary $50 drop to $250.

I think the Playstation is clearly the better choice at least for those who don't have a Blue-Ray player.

But it doesn't have the games, Online play, out of the box with a microphone, and not everyone wants to pay for the blu-rays themselves, \i know Blu-ray looks better, but i'm quite happy playing games on my xbox with full 1080p games but only 480p dvd's. I would sacrifice blu-ray for good games anyday!

A PS3 is a no brainer.... ! who wants a X-Box dvd player riddled with failures that's unacceptable.
Blu-ray is the future, and it's a much more modern machine compared to the old technology X-box. |

Comparing both on a feature-by-feature basis, the PlayStation 3 Slim definitely comes out on top: Same HDD size, built-in Wi-Fi vs. $100 add-on, doubles as a Blu-ray player, has Bluetooth support, and offers free online play. It's also smaller, lighter and its hardware has proven to be more reliable (at least on the older model).
But of course the most important deciding factor will likely boil down to game selection, and many will agree that Microsoft has done a great job in this department. |

Thank you, and actually, thats put in perspective very well, although the online should be noted, PS3's maybe free but is awful compared to xbox's.

Has to be the PS3, the 360 is cheap, but u end up paying loads for extras that take it over the price of the PS3. my 360 headsets keep breaking I am on my 3rd. My PS3 bluetooth headset (not the offical) has worked to this day for 2 years. U can add yer own HDD to the PS3, with the 360 u are stuck with the one u get unless u are willing to dish out on the overpriced 120G Hardrive.
While the xbox has a hole host of online features, it is unreliable and everytime I switch mine on I worry that its gonna Red ring. my 360s warrenty runs out next month, I may end up buying a new system, if u are a gaming franatic you will have both systems along with ur gamig PC and WII (like me) if u are just the casuel gamer or somebody who might play a game at the weekend or on a rainy day then the PS3 is the best value for money, u can use it as ur blueray player and stream media form PC just like with the 360. I might buy an elite if the same kinda price cuts apply for the UK as well, I allready have a PS3, and becuase of the poor life expectency of the 360 could do with a new one! |

(shrugs) Save your XBox/PS3 pennies and buy a new video card for your PC to play the BEST games. You'll be much happier. ;)

Everyone is going back and forward about which one is better. HELLO. This is a great time for anyone that doesnt own either to buy both as the price of one of these systems over a year and a half ago.

I'm a 360 owner, I even bought the HD DVD add-on a few months before the thing went dead (as in no longer supported, still works for readings DVDs). But if I was faced with the decision today I would probably pick up the PS3 Slim for the Blu-ray player and built-in Wi-Fi.
Game selection is relative on what you like to play, many A-list games are available for all consoles however. |

With the 360, you have to pray everytime you turn it on that it won't display an error or the rrod. Sorry, but you can't make me feel any different, as I've owned 3 360's and I'll never go back to them again. You get what you pay for and the xbox is crap. |

I wouldn't pick a wifi device over a wire. I just hate wifi's performance. It's like a cranky old hub that shares its traffic with all the devices connected in a round robin fashion. I'd rather use a switch and a $2.00 patch cable and have 4x the performance and none of the dropped traffic.
As for Blue-ray vs. DVD, the story is the same but the price is better on the DVD. Just like music, the quality of songs on iTunes are technically inferior to CD's, but I can buy the one song on an album at a lower price. So that's what I do, and i get the same amount of enjoyment. Give me more games, as good graphics, and a lower price - yeah, the Xbox 360 is the way to go. |

Please. I had a 360 for 3 years and 2 months before it red ringed. I never prayed about it because I knew I could get a replacement if it did go pop. My original PS1 didnt last as long as that - I had to turn it on its side to get games to play - look that up on wikipedia if you like.
Anyway, the graphics are better, the controllers are better with more buttons, there is more variation in the games.. wait a sec.. now im comparing the ps1 to the sega saturn.. Right now I would say the PS3 is better value - the wireless included, the ability to switch hard drives out and the inclusion of the blueray player. I still dont like the online as much as the 360s - the 360 does everything I want - I can chat on msn while im playing, my friends can contact me in games, invite me to party chats and all kinds while I play.. and the lag is non existant on the games I play. Very happy with that. But maybe Microsoft do need to do something more. The extra costs for the hard drives are a bit of a joke. The wireless adaptor is expensive. They just increased the price of the arcade unit from 129.99 to 165.99 in the UK for some reason while dropping the price of the elite to 199.99. I can see that the price of the elite is just an extra 35 quid, and that is easily worth the money for the hard drive but its a funny way of going about it. I might get a slim ps3 - I want to play the best version of ID Softwares Rage game - and they already said the 360 version would have lower resolution textures as they cant fit them all on DVDs compared to the PS3 Blueray. The new Drakes Fortune might be worth a look as if you believe the hype, the developer thinks they have got 100% performance from all the different chips in the PS3 finally, but they are a first party developer so they would say that. Anyway, interesting price drop. Happy with my 360 and Batman at the moment. Wierd that the arcade unit in the uk has increased tho. |

They dropped the HDMI cable to cut costs?? Although suckers can go to BestBuy and pay double digit prices for HDMI cables, good 6' HDMI cables regularly sell for $1-3 each. I can't imagine that not including one can be significant cost savings.
