i have a ibm thinkpad. im haveing trouble with it startingup and staying on. i kno it needs a battery. but, it does the same thing if i use the power cord. sometimes it will come on and stay for maybe 15 min and sometime it wont come back on till it set for a min.
 
Which Thinkpad is it? Most models are remarkably reliable.
They don't like a lot of dust, lint and fibre in the colling channels...
The usual cause of the signs and symptoms you describe is a bad hard drive, or abad power socket.
 
Look at the seven-digit type number on the label on the bottom... also available when you boot to the BIOS... then you can cross reference, if you need to, at www.lenovo.com thinkpads
 
ok, i bought a new battery installed it charged it. now it works fine. i think the old battery was not allowing the litho internal battery to charge. "MAYBE" cuz it works great now. like new again.
