Study: USB 3.0 will see broad adoption by 2012

According to a study released by In-Stat, SuperSpeed USB (3.0) will see widespread adoption in PCs and peripherals over the next few years. The firm says that around 70% of external hard drives will use the spec by 2012, with similar assimilation rates in notebooks and desktop computers.

what? you mean SSD? why would an internal HDD use USB3.0? If an internal HDD uses a USB then that just means it is an external...or better off being an external.

So when will Apple Macs adopt USB 3 ? In 2020 ? A Firewire jack will probably still be sticking out of Macbooks then.

Probably never, because apple will reject it, mistaking it for an "app"

Each year for the past few years has been the year of USB 3, hopefully we will actually see it in production.

Asus was originally going to support USB 3.0 on their boards already, but ditched it because of adoption fears. Sad, Asus would have a jump start on this.

It would be great if internal and external drives had the same interface. What could possibly be the disadvantage if transfer speed is a non-issue?

Imagine internal drives with only 1 connector! That is totally the future. The simpler, the better.

I'm expecting a lot sooner than 2012, wondering about possible PCI cards with USB3 ports?
