Vulnerability in DirectPlay Could Allow Denial of Service

Affected Software:
Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition, Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-Bit Edition, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), & Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

This update resolves a newly-discovered, privately reported vulnerability. A denial of service vulnerability exists in the implementation of the IDirectPlay4 application programming interface (API) of Microsoft DirectPlay because of a lack of robust packet validation.

Patch Availability.
