Setup did not find any HDD installed in your computer.. HELP

This is regarding a DELL Inspirion 1525 running Windows Vista

I am trying to use System Recovery off the original OS Reinstallation disk, to correct several .dll errors it has been having. However, when I run the System Recovery, it tells me

Setup did not find any Hard disk drivers installed in your computer

So, I followed the advice on other boards, about changing the BIOS settings from ACHI to ATA. That allows it to recognize the HDD, but now I have a roadblock with the Administrators password..

Can anyone advise another way to check the system32 files?

Doublecheck your hard drives for bent pins or incorrect seating.
Download the latest BIOS to a flash drive and reinstall it.
Download the latest chipset drivers to a flash drive and install them.
Change your BIOS settings back to ATA
