DVD Media Problem

hi,
i am looking for a DVD which is larger than 8.5GB. does anyone have a suggestion?
also, when i insert a blank DVD, it gets detected as a CD, in Windows and other programs, such as RealPlayer, but the true DVD utilities detect it as a DVD. i am puzzled...

Blank dvds don't come larger than ~8.5GB, some stamped DVDs are bigger, but not much. You'll have to go to BluRay if you want more on an optical disk.

Windows XP may still detect blank dvds as cds because it can't burn dvds without 3rd party software. I say may still because I haven't used XP in many years.
