I Got the "Blues"........
Well, I saw Avatar, and right after the conclusion I flaty stated that it was, "the best movie ever".
Then my son partly ruined it by explaining it (the plot) was actually an animated feature, "Fern Gully"! OK, but the live people and over the top FX, did help quite a bit. Oh, the 300 million dollar budget may have helped also. Still I gotta say, this is probably be the movie that causes me to buy a Blu-Ray player. Blue people, Blu-Ray, you gotta love the irony |

"South Pacific" is the best movie ever made.

Burt Lancaster, is the world's biggest ham.
I'm sorry, I think I got this confused with "Rainmaker". |

Sorry, Cap'n, maybe you're thinking of "From here to Eternity". South Pacific was a fantastic musical starring Mitzi Gaynor and Rossano Brazzi.
It's a WWI movie with an anti-racism theme that was very daring for its time. Picking the best movie of all time is really hard, given the thousands of choices, but I've been a sucker for this on e since I first saw it in thew '50s. I never thought of Lancaster as a ham. He made some very good movies, but movies have changed a lot. You won't find a single boob or swear word in any of Burt's movies, and I can't help but think that's a good thing. (Although, I always appreciate a little "hint' of boob). |

You're absolutely correct. Thanks for coming up with that. Now it won't nag me why I made that connection. Lancaster was in the beach scene, yes?

As to "hint of boob", I think the contemporary term for that is "nip slip". (Yes, 'hint" requires a bit more exposure in 2010). Last edited by captaincranky; 03-15-2010 at 11:53 PM.. |

Favorite tv show would have to be Arrested Development. Yea it was only on for 3 seasons and is cancelled now, but still hilarious.

Really? It was an OK movie, but it wasn't great. And to top it off I have seen the rewrite script comparisons of it vs pochantas. Really? I don't know/care if they are fake, but holy crap, if someone can 'fake' some script and have it play out to those 2 movies, then maybe they are a rehash of each other. |

The "Prettiest Naked Girl Ever" is always the Last One I've Seen...
Quote:
Beyond that, I don't have any other excuse/ slash/ explanation for this, other than to say, "it was the best movie I've ever seen, but it was on the big screen, I don't get out much, and it was fresh in my mind"! And yes, the irony just keeps on coming, since studios essentially steal intellectual property from one another, before a film is even released. Don't let any of us try it though! Usually these are vignettes, forthrightly admitted, and passed off as "homage". In science fiction, George Lucas freely admits, that the bottomless pit reactor of the death star, is pulled from "Forbidden Planet", which is in turn very, (very), loosely based on Shakespear's "The Tempest". (But, since "The Tempest" was so far out of copyright when "Forbidden Planet" was conceived, there's obviously, "no harm, no foul" at work there). "Avatar" also has some elements of another animated feature, "Battle for Terra", that was released a few months prior. As someone like myself who is always interested in acquiring new equipment/ toys in the entertainment and computer venues, why does it surprise you when I say, "that Avatar may cause me to finally embrace Blu-Ray"? It had to happen that something would push me "over the 1080P edge", so to speak. For this purpose Avatar is as good a choice as any, and better than 95% of those "any". As to more substantial "dramas", the kind that the twits who pass themselves off as "movie critics," "embrace", these are usually headache inducing, screamingly boring, time wasting garbage. If I want, "human drama and degradation", then all I have to do is look out my front door. I equate a, "two thumbs up" rating, with that old Mafia custom, "the kiss of death". In any event, for comparison's sake, ask yourself, "was it worth sitting through "Eyes Wide Shut", just to see Nicole Kidman take her clothes off"? I'm thinkin' NOT! I think i would have a hard time picking my favorite movie. Not many really got me stuck into them. Just about every anime movie made though would be my favorite.
As for TV shows my favorites are Scrubs, That 70's Show and Two and a Half Men. I also watch the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson for the obvious reason that its amazingly awesome. |
