Don't get a 6GB kit. I don't think the AMDs have a triple channel memory controller. If you don't get the OCZ Vendetta 2 look for the Xigmatek HDT S1283.

Thats a lot, I think that would waste more money than a marginally more expensive 2x2, but meh.

It's like Christmas! (It should be as this is pretty much my Christmas present). The Case, MOBO, CPU, Harddrive, and CPU cooler all arrived today. I had the power supply in hand. Watching the progress of my other shipments, and hopefully by Friday, I'll be fully functional.
Thanks to everyone for their help!

Let us know when you get it together. By the way, did you get your video card from ZZF?

In one of my PCs i also have an AMD Phenom II X4 955 although I used an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro instead of the newer version you ordered. You'll be glad you ordered the aftermarket cooler because the stock cooler was quite noisy. The fan is much smaller than the one Arctic Cooling uses.

Also, I bought a 23" LG on Newegg for 209.95 today!

I think I'm done spending though. I probably need a new mouse and keyboard still. Any suggestions?

Maybe. I don't know really know if I can stomach spending $100+ on a mouse and keyboard right now. So probably nothing too fancy.

I don't game online but I just use a basic PS/2 keyboard and mouse to game. You can get fancy ones but you don't absolutely need them.

So I slapped it together last night, and started it up. No problems, except Windows hasn't arrived yet. It's supposed to get here today, via UPS. I really hope a signature isn't required, because no one will be home, in which case I will probably hafta wait till Monday to pick it up

I was forced to abandon the 2 3.5" bays in the center of the case and put the harddrive in the bottom chamber with the power supply because of the video card length, but other than that, it went pretty smoothly. Probably should get a case fan for that bottom chamber now, but the stock fans on the top and rear are pulling air through that bottom chamber currently, so I'm not terribly worried yet.

The other minor issue I had is the CPU cooler. It is slightly touching the first RAM stick. I don't think it is a big deal because it is still seated and obviously the comptuer started up, but probably not ideal. Overall the case was great and pretty easy to work with. So for anyone looking, the P183 will fit a 5870 graphics card, with a little sacrifice. For that matter, a second one would fit also. Removing the center 3.5" bays is probably better for airflow around that behemoth anyway.

Using the new computer now, everything seems to be in order. Played a little World in Conflict last night with no issues. Need to get some better games now

just bend the fins on the cpu cooler up slightly till they are not making contact with your ram module. will not hurt anything or effect performance.

I raised the multiplier and overclocked to 3.4 Ghz with no issues. Orded a couple more case fans that should arrive today. I may play with it some more, but 3.4Ghz is probably fine. May try to take it up to 3.6 or so.

Would you please just give a short update?

Hello there,

I just wanted to find out how your computer is running and if you would change anything from your build?

Assuming I was to buy this in the next couple of months, are there any major changes out there that would prefer? And anything you compromised on that you wished you hadn't (the graphics card and ram according to your post)?

I'm not sure if bringing this old post back to life will get me any replies but I figure why waste it when it's pretty much exactly what I am looking for and not THAT old.

Thanks in advance for any updates/replies.

PS: my screwed up username is the result of me getting frustrated when 3 or 4 different usernames I tried to enter kept getting rejected for being "in use or against administrative blah blah blah" or something. Sorry.

That particular motherboard has only 1 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot or two PCI Express 2.0 x8. So I would maybe get one with 2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots.

In addition, I might get a 750 watt power supply for crossfire purposes.

But in reality, I probably won't ever spend that much money on another graphics card, so I really like what I have.

Also, if you are looking for a monitor, newegg had a nice 22" (21.5" viewable) LG for about $150 last week. I bought it for my wife. It is hardly any smaller than the one I bought, but it does not have HDMI input, only DVI. Supports 1920 x 1080 resolution.

It is $180 now, but you might keep an eye on the price:

And HK was right, I probably only needed 4GB of memory for now. But I parted 4 out and used it on the new computer for my wife
