Thats true, if you have good airflow. If you have poor airflow hot zones can develop that are allowed to dissipate with the case side off. Also for diagnostic purposes you can place a larger fan to blow onto your motherboard/video card which will keep it as cool as you are going to get on air.

to hot

I agree 100%. Thats whats makes the CoolerMaster 830 Stacker such a great case.It has really great airflow, and with both side panels being mesh all that trapped heat escapes. I have been using CoolIts Freezones going on 3 yrs now,and the latest one," The Elite " really gets the job done. They sent one to me for testing going on 3 months ago, i also have two of their new 12 TEC Boreas Chillers which out performs the Elite , but its very expensive. Just the bare bones version io belive is over $600. The one they sent to me a little over a month ago for testing & review came pre-installed in a silverstone TJ-07 case.I belive that over $1000 including shipping, but it also cools two SLI or Crossfire cards and also both chipsets. It comes with the heatsinks for the cards, but if you want the chipsets also cooled you have to call and have them. For a person that wants the best cooling for just their processor, the Elite is the way to go. With a QX6800 OCed to 3.86 temps did not go above 42c underload.

What about the HDD Temp?

I have read a lot here about the temps of the CPU mobo etc. but what about the hard drive? Mine are running at 51 C to 56C which seems a little high don't you think? Hard drives are very sensitive to high temps unlike these other components.

51C and 56C is pretty high, I fixed my hot hard drives by just putting a fan in front of them to blow air over them, my samsung 80gig runs 12C, and my WDC 80gig runs 30C. You can also buy special fans and stuff that fit around the hard drives to cool them. Also seperating the hard drives by 1 bay really brings down the temps.

thanks.
I am not sure how to fit a fan on them. They are set in on their side perpendicular to the mobo and fit exactly in a compartment. There are not any vents in the case near them I am not sure how to attach a fan there.

HDDs

Most hard drive cage's have a place to mount a fan.Not all, but most. Your drives are to hot.I have two 150GB Raptors as well as a WD750Gb. and temps never go over 27c.What kind of case do you have? it sounds like it does not have very good air flow for your drives to be in the 50c range.

Hi,
I have an emachines case model T6410. I know it isn't good but I am kinda stuck with it. I will take the other panel off today and see if I could attach a fan there.
Thanks

I own a shop and build and sell mostly highend gaming rigs, but i also do repairs and to be honest with you,I get anywahere from 40-50 e-machines a year that have all kinds of problems. You do need to cool those drives as soon as possible before you start having issues with them.

I'm back...

So Mobo died...I have a new computer now. I had a local guy build one for me. I have a nice sized case now so that the drives are separated and also an extra fan in the side of the case which I will need with the super processor I got. I feel so much better getting rid of that emachines computer what a waist of money!!

for what little money emachines cost, they can be quite a waist. My friend's emachine suddenly just stopped working, we tried reinstalling, and it would install then just not load windows. But even just in the bios, the cpu would run at about 40C, the hd at about 50C.

I donno...
I have a very spacious case that is ventilated well and the processor runs between 40 and 60 all the time. From what I have read processors may get very hot. My new one is intel dual so that may be why.

Is there a program with which I could check components temperatures? Nvidia monitor came with the graphics card drivers but I don't know how to check other temperatures. Is it possible? I especially want to check the CPU temp.

MobileMeter is pretty good too, you can make it 50% transparent and stay on top of all your windows, small too, neat program.

okay...about the xbox...have you tried the towel technique? basically when you get the red rings, wrap your xbox in 3 towels!!! yes...TOWELS! just wrap it tightly with 3 towels, for around 10 minutes and there you go it should work again...BUT this is only a temporary fix...you seriously should get it back to microsoft and get it fixed!!! by this i mean you will have to do this technique many times. but its good enough for the time being. My friend did it and it worked quite good!

I have a laptop with an AMD Turion processor that runs at like 190F average... but for some reason i think the reading might be a bit off... and also AMDs in laptops for some reason tend to run hot...
