Weekend tech reading: Nvidia next-gen GPU 'Fermi' to arrive in early 2010

Nvidia to ramp up production of Fermi graphics cards in 2010 Nvidia Corp.’s chief executive officer said during quarterly conference call with financial analysts that the company would only ramp up production of its next-generation flagship Fermi-G300 graphics processing unit in the company’s first quarter of fiscal year 2011, which means January-April timeframe. boy does Nvidia have their xxxxx caught in the ringer. all this PR is BS, they don't have a viable product to offer yet. there is no way they would let ATI/AMD have a two quarter jump if they did.

By the time they release Fermi AMD will have a strong hold on the DX11 market and they will surely have a few new products (Better, Stronger, Faster - it sounds nice ^_^) by then. Unless Fermi is much better than AMD's cards i don't see them winning this round.

I think it's funny how people are saying Nvidia is going to lose the DirectX 11 market when there are no products that even use DX11 yet. Are people really so impatient that they can't wait a few months to buy a video card? I've been waiting since June for Fermi, and I'm going to keep on waiting. My GTX 260 is performing like a champ, and I want to get the best card for my money as either way, the Radeon 5xxx series or the GTX 3xx series will be cheaper when there's some competition.

I completely agree with Wagan! I have a GTX 260 and it outperforms almost all ati graphics cards except for the latest ones anyway, i don't want to upgrade when my current one runs amazingly! I would rather wait for nvidia to come out with a proper graphics card instead of them rushing it. Nvidia has been the world leader in graphics tech for a while now, I have no reason at all to doubt that these chips won't perform. I'm also happy to bet anyone who has brought one of the latest ATI's will cry the day techspot review the new Nvidia's and they completely trample over them!

I still have a hard time finding a game that pushes my 8800 GTS to it's limits. (Crysis deserving a special mention.) Last 3 generations of cards all seem to be the same to me. So I'm not expecting much from this new GPU.

giving CEO of decade to Steve Jobs is absolutely fair. He did fantastic job. When he took the CEO post of Apple, the company was on verge of bankruptcy and see now where it stands.

DUDE! LOOK AT THE NEW CALL OF DUTY REVIEW! the GTX 260 actually beats the 4870 4890 by a mile! considering its the same price if not cheaper and in full quality and full anti-alising in full res, it really owns the ati's! and thats not the only game which proves it! if you need, I will actually link you to soo many websites that prove the GTX 260 beats those 2 ati's. even future mark proves it!

Geez burty, I rather think you are living in Nvidia fanboy fantasy land here, i don't know what bench you are talking about, but you pick one game that it does better at? talk about selective reasoning. each company has a handful of titles that they favor because they 'sponsored' them during development. here are a slew of benchmarks that not only put the 4890 up against the 260, but the 275 and 280 which is a better match. Face it , your 260 does not dominate even the 4890, but is mile behind of the the new generation...... of I know...all of these benches are wrong...right?

Each side has their own set of advantages however. ATI for instance, used DirectX 10.1 to gain a considerable performance edge over NVIDIA in H.A.W.X. BattleForge (another AMD-sponsored title with DX10.1 support) wouldn’t even run half the time on the GeForce cards, crashing to the desktop, and when it did run the GTX 260 was considerably behind the 4870.

adjustments you have a clear winner for all the Radeon fans out there. It should also scare some of the NVIDIA fans out there as it was overall faster than the GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 and even the GeForce GTX 275 in a couple of the benchmarks.

lol thanks red for backing me up i laugh when someone states that call of duty plays better on nvidia products lol oh and the future mark thing don't make me laugh nvidia drivers inflate there cards scores in future mark. Oh and just to let you know the 4890 when overclocked can beat even the mighty gtx 285 in some benchmarks i dont see you gtx 260 pulling that off lol.
