The computer virus turns 26 today

WTF!?

Wikipedia: "The Creeper worm was an experimental self-replicating program written by Bob Thomas at BBN in 1971.[1] It is generally accepted to be the first computer virus."

Is there any reason an anti-virus company wouldn't want to make viruses that only their software can catch? It wouldn't be that hard to hide the source.
