Sorry folks, we ran into a cascade failure, our database server hung and had to be forced to terminate before it could be used again, which then required several hours to check all the tables and indexes, after that issue was resolved we ran into problems with our Network Attached Storage device. Additional fixes may occur throughout the night and possibly tomorrow.
Looks like they are having problems again. I found that at this link: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/

STK - The team's name is techspot (no space between tech and spot)

For those of you having trouble with the BOINC client.. according to setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu the problem isn't that there is no work, just there is high demand and the RPC Scheduler can't handle it.. they're bringing machines up as they can, plus more splitters to handle the workload (They at one point had a 300,000 unit cache, were creating 12 units per hour or, and were handing them out 10,000 per hour.)

Keep force updating it, as well as letting it sit there, it'll eventually get the data.

For those poor folks like me on dialup, be sure to go into the BOINC preferences webpage and tell it to save at least X days of work to cache for ya.

The stats link probably should be setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu, not setiboinc....

I'll look into it when I get a few more minutes later on tonight.

I finally got it to work... problem is it doesn't seem to obey my settings. I have it set on the webpage to ask before connecting to the servers (cause I've got dialup at home). It has apparently ignored that command, because all 3 of the machines I put it on seem to dial up without asking.
It wouldn't normally be a problem except that my winmodem is such a POS that occationally it doesn't hang up properly and it leaves our phone line with no dial tone until I unplug the phone line (and we cannot recieve calls during this time either). It also sucks cause last night was the first night I had it on mine, and it woke me up several times during the night trying to connect.

What you can do is click on File->Disable Network

Yeah, I've noticed it doesn't listen to that modem setting. Do you have a home lan? I wonder if that affects it somehow....

Yeh it told it to disable network whatever, and that seems to be working.

The BOINC servers have been down for quite some time now, causing some of my report deadlines to come and go. That sucks cause my comps are slow, so its a lot of CPU time per unit to not have them count..

Their systems that are made to handle this apparently cannot handle it. There has been nothing but problems with BOINC since it was released. I have yet to see it work flawlessly even once, and I have yet to see it work even with a few glitches for over 2 days.

Its crap, and my machines will not even be attempting to dl units until I hear from people over a few day period that its working.

While the client is working fine, the servers themselves continue to have repeated outages.

They're moving to new hardware in hopes that it helps, but really I'm not sure this is the solution. It seems to me that a revamp of the DB architecture and workunit distribution method will be needed before BOINC is ready for full time.

Perhaps we should call this client B0IRK?

Have there been any changes on this front? Just curious to know if things have changed. I, personally, have stopped crunching for a while (my rooms are getting too hot) but was considering coming back once the bugs have been worked out.

Dell Inspiron 1100

I hope this is the right place to try and get some answers. I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 and the power and battery ligh just blinks when power cable is plug in. I think it may be the mother board but would like to know for sure. Has anyone had this problem before.

I have put BOINC on my system, but it is definately un-user friendly and a royal pain in the rectum to run. And you're correct- I haven't seen it run for a few days straight without outages. The screen-saver is a little prettier than the classic seti-at-home....

still I like to donate unused clock cycles to something worth while.

What is this exactly? I have seen people talk about how it does good and cancer research but I am a little confused any explanation of it would be appreciated.

BOINC is a program that allows multiple free clock cycle platforms to run on your computer. When one platform is not able to run for whatever reason - lack of data, server problems.... the next one will.
