RAID 0 Is Rubbish For Single User Machines

So say the guys at Storage Review, who claim that their tests demonstrate "that the gains in striping... [disks] were minimal especially when one considered that a large portion of what gain there was due to the doubling of capacity and the resulting smaller distances that the actuator must travel to execute the same chain of disk accesses."

A discussion is ensuing about the ramifications of this.
