Modular PSU's could be the way forward

Like many readers of this site, I've always tried to give the PSU the respect it deserves and purchase a half decent one, given that they provide the juice that makes the whole magic happen, and that so many problems can be averted by avoiding poor quality PSUs.

That said, there's often little innovation in this market. Which I often think is a shame. That's why I was delighted to come across this article, which reviews the Ultra Product X-Connect 500 W ATX Power Supply, a true innovation in modular PSU design.

Rather than having a bunch of power cables sprout forth from your PSU like some ugly weed, a modular design allows you to connect only the cables you need to the PSU. Cable clutter is greatly reduced and airflow enhanced. All serious modders should take a look.

Those are nice. A lot less cables hanging around in the case. If you accidently cut one, you can just change it. Hopefully you can buy some shorter cables, usefull for cdroms that are near the PSU.

A very cool disign. Antec also makes a PSU like that called "NeoPower". silent pc review and toms hardware both have reviews. Antec's has a 120mm fan, which I wish more companies would move to.

Now if only I can remember where I put those cables?
Not much of a step forward in PSU design, but welcome none-the-less.

Something that will reduce clutter and improve airflow in a case is always welcome.
