Microsoft e-mail protocol could help end spam

Microsoft is working on a "Sender ID anti-spam protocol" which should help to stamp out spam by preventing e-mail spoofing.

Whilst this has been seen as very attractive and has generated much praise from many Web hosters and ISPs, many in the Linux community are unhappy with the Microsoft backed approach. Nevertheless, like me and most (if not all) of you, everyone is sick to death of spam and wants it stopped.

The new technology combines Microsoft's former Caller ID with SPF (Sender Policy Framework). It will only really work if its adopted by the majority of domains but if successful should help to stamp out a problem that is killing e-mail.
