Laptop monitor not working

The monitor on my laptop stopped working. It blinks when I first open the lid then goes blank. When hooked up to HDMI I can get the images on the big screen, but extend it to my laptop, and it wont show on the laptop screen. Ideas anyone?

It may be the backlight inverter.

If your laptop monitor is not working at all disconnect it. You can just try plug it in the external and then boot. I assume that if the laptops lcd is disconnected than the external will be the default monitor. You have to connect it to external monitor and check if it is working or not.
