North and South Bridge what are they and do I need....

I was wondering what exactly is the North and South bridge chips on the motherboard? And what do they do?? Should I get some Heatsinks for them? Also here's is my mobo as I have no idea what the north and south bridge look like? =\

There is some argument about whether Nforce chipsets should be referred to with the traditional north bridge and south bridge terminology. Nvidia built this Nforce3 chipset with one chip for the north and south bridge.

Oh ok....
So I am assuming thatt the Asus Heatsink is one the nforce3 chipset correct? In any case I won't need a Heatsink ?
