Samsung SATA SH-S223C cannot be seen in Windows

Hi all,

I just added a new Samsung DVD writer to my system and when I booted into Windows the drive cannot be seen. I rebooted and checked in the BIOS and the drive could be seen. So logged back into Windows and still nothing could be seen.

I have a SATA HDD which the OS runs off so didn't think it was the drivers. When I checked around on the internet the only thing that I could find was to upgrade the firmware, but in order to do that, Windows has to be able to see the device. Device doesn't appear in device manager so I'm now at a total loss. Any one got any ideas?

Some motherboards include SATA controllers made by two different makers which need different drivers. Maybe you have such a second controller and you plugged the new optical drive into one of it's ports. If so, you can just install the appropriate driver.
