Next version of MySQL to use Microsoft open source code

"If Microsoft releases something under public license, we will use it." - David Axmark, co-founder of MySQL.

Due for release in two weeks time, version 4.1 of MySQL will contain source code that Microsoft made available under a public license earlier in the year. The Windows Installer XML tool set was made available under an open-source licence in April, and has been used by MySQL developers to generate binary installation files for the Windows operating system. The code is not being used to create MySQL itself, rather to provide an administrative tool that connects to the database.
