i think im having the same problem as stupidcomputer..
i recently installed a new PSU(Antec TruePower 650w) and a new video card(geforce 8600 gts). At first I still got to play HL2 in high settings before the problem started. I tried to play vegas but then it hanged up. I thought it was nothing so I just restarted my pc. But then it will either hang up after loading windows xp(before the welcome screen) and show a black screen or automatically restarts after loading win xp or show the blue screen error something after loading.. so i tried reformatting it thought it might solve the prob but after it reformats te drive for win xp.. it would hang up when its loading the set up files.
is the problem my video card?
is it the hard drive or mobo?
will reseting CMOS help?
i need a reply please.. i need to use my pc for a project.
thanks in advance.

You guys should start your own threads...not piggy back on someone elses. Your problems may NOT be exactly the same

Post your computer specs!

keiiyondaime,
did you use the video drivers off a supplied CD? if you did, go to the Nvidia website and download the latest driver for your video card.

saintage,
save you pennies and replace that CD drive... That is the cause of your problem

Have you tried deleting all the temp files? Go to control panel / folder options. Open the view tab and check the spot to show hidden files and folders. Go to start / my computer / Root drive (the one your OS is on) / documents and settings / your user name / Local Settings. Open the Temp file and delete everything it will delete. You might have a few that won't. That's OK. Don't delete the temp folder, just the contents. Now go to Temporary Internet Files open that and delete everything in that one as well.

Go to control panel / internet options / advanced tab. Scroll down towards the bottom and fine thebox for Empty temporary internet files folder when the browser closes. See how that works for you. Don't forget when you're done to uncheck the box to show hidden files.

in other words, download a program called ccleaner, and run it.

CrapCleaner is OK, but it's better to do it by hand if for no other reason than to learn. IMO (and yes I have crap cleaner on my system too)

no change

hey thnx for the info but no change it still does the same thing.....

it seems to be these two file...

C:\DOCUME~1\Don\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER00e1.dir00\Mini100607-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Don\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER00e1.dir00\sysdata.xml

And it only restarts during games .....do u think there is something wrong with the Graphics card or the drivers.....

Open up your computer and check that all fans are clean, free of dust and debris. Make sure the fans are runnning normally.

Those files you posted are not harmful, and the Mini100607-01.dmp reference means that your computer has some problems, but we know that already, don't we

"When I checked the details it said that the temp files in Local Settings are causing the Error"...

I really think this is bogus. I have never heard of "TEMP files in Local Settings" causing this type of error. This system may simply be infected with the usual Virus, spyware and malware nasties

I have a similar problem, but my comp is still messing up

anytime i use a ram heavy program the comp shuts down.... any suggestions... I have 2 gbs of ram a 3.2 p4 processor and two hard drives totaling 500gb of space

i should note that i built it myself over a year and a half ago, and it has worked for the most part without a hitch for that time (some random shutdowns here and there but never like this) i installed a new 450w power supply but that didn't seem to change the performance

any suggestions

So Bigbat8300,
What is this computer's make and model? Specs like motherboard make and model, video card? If it shuts down while your doing stuff, this may point to video driver problems or a malware infection too

If it is only during RAM intensive programs, then that begs the question "have you tested your RAM"? Go here and download Memtest86 and run the diagnostic to see if you have a stick of RAM going bad. If so, this is a great time to buy new memory as it's dirt cheap right now.

Another question. If it freezes up, can you reboot right away, or does the unit have to sit for a few moments. If it's the second, then it could be pointing to a heat issue.

Does your computer have a floppy disk player? Try the MS Memory Diagnostic. It's a little more user friendly in terms of walking you through the whole process. If you still have questions post back.
