Firefox/Thunderbird changing versions... locked out of T-bird

Problems started with Firefox going from curr (9.0.1) vers. to 3.6.25 and Thunderbird (9.0.1) reverting to 3.1.17. Both occur randomly.
Progressed to not being able to access Thunderbird.

Have been here before... Dec. '10 (Broni). Different problem.

Ran the initial runs.
Logs upon request.
 
Randomly ? Really. Please describe, and describe your system, as well.
Have you checked your Programs list?
