Please help i got a RAM question about installing memory to my computer??

hey guys i recently have decided to up grade my computer from 512 mb to 1 gig of ram now my question is that the memory chip that i got in my computer right now says its a pc2100 ddr . now my question is that there is a memory chip that is being sold to me at a good price on ebay 512 MB DDR PC 2700. Now does it matter that its a pc 2700??? because the one that is in my computer is a 2100 ddr. will the 512 MB DDR PC 2700 be compatible with my computer. i have a sony vaio pcv rx 660 wtith 512MB PC2100 DDRAM MEMORY SONY PCV-RX660. so i guess my question is will a 512 MB DDR PC 2700 be compatible with my computer???? thanks for your help.

The new RAM will work fine. It will just run at PC 2100 instead of 2700 but there is a chance you can run your 2100 at 2700. 2100 is 266mhz and 2700 is 333mhz. Ive always been able to do that.
