Once you see the recycler directory, try this:
Rename it to something else, like recycler2. Then delete a file (create an empty text document or something, for example). Explorer should create a new \recycler directory. Then delete recycler2. Maybe this helps.

Hope someone is still reviewing this thread - the above fix worked (to a point.) I renamed it Trash, rebooted the computer and I now have a new Recycled Bin that behaves the way it should. HOWEVER, I can't delete the renamed Trash bin because it has a folder in it named NPROTECT (presumably a hangover from when I used Norton Sytemworks) and the message I get when I try to delete the files in this folder is "Cannot delete file X. Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path & file name". I wouldn't bother with this except that these files are consuming nearly 500MB of disk space. Anyone have an answer to this for me??
