Losing settings and icons from desktop in Windows XP Pro

I am running Windows XP Pro in work stations in a Windows 2000 Server environment. I just established the domain and created all of the user accounts. I set up the teachers profiles and desktops. However, they are all losing the seetings and the icons are disappearing along with all of the Internet Explorer settings. When I go back and try to add the icons again I get the mesage " Windows could not create the shortcut. Check to see if the disk is full". Can anyone help me here?
