Hdd speed question

Right now I have a 10gb 5400rpm master and a 80gb 5400rpm as a slave on a gigabyte ga-7dx motherboard (athlonxp1800)

I would like to know if I could successfully upgrade my master to a 80gb 7200rpm drive and still have the 80GB 5400rpm drive as a slave on that Gigabyte GA-7dx motherboard.

any and all help is appreciated.

I would strongly recommend that. You should always use the faster drive as the Master.

I believe he is saying that he is going to replace his 10 gig with another 80 gig.

No, I think he means getting a new 80 gig 7200 as his master, cause right now he has an 80 gig 5400(keeping it as slave). right?

sorry to be so confusing

I would like to replace my 10GB 5400RPM master with a 80GB 7200RPM and make that new drive the master while still keeping my other 80GB 5400RPM drive as a slave.

Well, in that case, refer to my first reply.

This should be what you want

80GB 7200 RPM (Master), 80GB 5400 RPM (Slave)

That is actually the preferred and recommended way to set up your drives.
