Help DVD/CD-RW Problems

hi i have a HP DVD/CD-RW writer 300n
and whever i insert a blanc dvd+r into the drive the drive icon changes from
DVD/CD-RW Drive (E:) to Cd Drive (E:) and cannot recoognise the disc
