Mulling over free forum options

As I'm thinking, and cruising through, various places for the free forum I hope to start, I'm wondering :

1. Are sites like Phpbbforfree and Invisionfree related to the Phpbb.com and Invision.com, or are they separate unrelated offshoots?

2. My tendency is to shy away from sites that don't tell you where they're located. No reason - I just don't like companies that seem to be hiding. Should that make a difference?

3. I'm not finding that most sites give a hint as to how long they've been in existence. Should that be something to worry about?

What do you think?
