DOS does see & recognize the hard drivr but winXP does not see it!

it would be much appreciated if anyone can help!
it is the same western digital HDD which had electric short, upon strt up, dos reads the drive but when win XP come up it does not display the HDD as if it did not exist.

Are you saying you can read the drive from a Dos bootdisk or Dos is loaded on the drive?
If the drive is formatted in Fat 16 XP will not recognize it.
You will have to delete partitions and create/format new ones with the XP cd .
