Do I really need a CD-ROM drive?

i'm building a new computer i have a dvd-rom drive do i really need a cd-rom drive because the dvd-rom drive reads cd-roms and dvds?

You're fine with just the DVD drive.

System specs
yes, dvd roms can read cd's (they are backwards compatible), but cd roms cannot read dvds. you should only be concerned is you have an old dvd rom drive that has excessivley slow read speeds (combo drives were like that back in the day). in that case, you'll probably get fed up with the lackluster performance and get yourself a cr-rom drive (fast ones are dirt cheap these days).
