Floppy Drive Not Recognised

<My Computer> does not display an A: drive.
Ihave an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
I connected another (used) floppy drive, noticed that the LED was on, realized that I had used the second connector. Reconnected to the first connector. Still no A:

Device Manager says the standard floppy disk controller is working properly: does this rule out a Motherboard problem?
Two bad drives seems improbable, since they are not used much. Maybe the cable is bad.

Anybody have other ideas?

Maybe you plugged the cable in the wrong way. The red wire goes next to pin #1 on the connector. And yes, you may have a bad floppy cable. You could try connecting the drive to the middle connector and changing BIOS settings accordingly (tell it that you have floppy drive B and no A).

Cable Connection

There is no pin labiing on the drive. I assumed that the #1 is closest to the power connector. I also remember from another post that if the drive is connected wrong, the LED is on constantly.

I'll try the BIOS change B: and no A:
