Laptop turned off suddenly, will not start

Was watching a movie, laptop turned off, will not power on. Nothing was spilled onto it or anything obvious like that. It has dropped dead on its own.

Please help me revive!

Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 4000: 700mhz Pentium 3, 256mb ram, Windows XP.

there's a reasonable chance that a critical component simply balked, but first i'd check the man battery for contact. can you see any LEDs light up when the laptop is plugged in via power adapter.
