Microsoft FTP Server Leak
In the latest of several security blunders (the collected tales of which read like some Shakespearian tragedy), its been revealed that Microsoft's FTP server (which they use to provide customers with patches and updates and also use to allow their employees to upload important data) was security compromised earlier this month in such a way that "the public was able to have full access to folders containing confidential company presentations, spreadsheets, internal reports and other company information...."
Wired.com wrote: "Among the files accessible to any Internet user was a 1 GB database containing millions of names and mailing addresses. The data was kept in a compressed archive named dmail_11_04_02.zip. The file, which was protected with the password "dbms," was easily opened with freely available password-cracking software." Would you like to know more? And more here Last edited by Phantasm66; 11-22-2002 at 05:57 PM. |
