Screen frozen when game begins

Hi guys, I hope someone can help. I've had BF2 running for over a month now, no serious problems.
Yesterday it crashed and a message came up saying Windows XP has just recovered from a serious error. The Microsoft error page said it was an unspecified problem relating to my ATI card (9800 Pro). I can still start the game, login, refresh server list and join the game, but when it goes to the weapon select screen and map, the mouse and keyboard are totally unresponsive and I have to Alt-F4 to get out of the game and back to desktop.

Has anyone else seen this problem or have any ideas?

Cheers.
