Sony dumps Microsoft for StarOffice
In an interesting move, Sony has announced they will switch from Microsoft Office and Works packages to use Sun's StarOffice on some PC models shipping in Europe.
Sun seems to be getting a lot of attention lately with the latest version of the StarOffice bundle which is touted to take over Corel's WordPerfect Suite market share and hurt Microsoft's a bit, too. More manufacturers could follow if Sony's move is successful, as cutting costs is a priority on today's flooded PC market... Heh, like I heard somewhere else earlier this week, it'd seem that not being Microsoft is a complete marketing tool by itself, though it's important to highlight that Sun have a solid, not yet perfect Office Suite with StarOffice 6.0. |

Sony will sure save alot of money...
I've never tried StarOffice, and I've only used OpenOffice once. Think I should try it out?

I tried StarOffice 5.0 (or something, and it was nice... It had some flaws, but those were fixed in later versions...
So, sure, try it out, and tell us what you think of the current version... |
