new comp. keeps freezing, any ideas?

Hi, i just got a customized computer and everytime i load a game, the game like freezes 20 secs. in...and then when i click on a program to load, it takes awhile to actually load and then after awhile it loads...and then freezes...and then works...after about 2 min too....any ideas on what the problem could be? Here are my spces.

Intel Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz Processor
1 GB Memory
160 GB Harddrive
GeForce FX5200 256MB (tryin to change to X800XL or Pro)

My specs are:

SOYO Motherboard
1 GB Memory
160 GB Harddrive
GeForce FX5200 256MB (changing it to X800 Pro)

i don't trust soyo at all, they have delivered consistently bad products.

things to try:
install/update all drivers to the latest version.
update the bios (available from your MFG website, make sure your d/l the right program for your mobo.

How do i find out which drivers and bios i need to update? and what is a PSU? ya im a noobie haha

perhaps you'd be best off by having the machine looked at by a technician or otherwise skilled person, because you have to potential to create a big mess unless you know what you're doing.

if you have to ask what a PSU is (power supply unit) you shouldn't be messing around building a computer until you have done all your homework (unless you constantly want to go to the store and buy replacement parts.)
Read a good book on building computers first.
